Open Cases

Are Free CS2 Cases Really Free?

Mostly no, and the sites offering them rarely say so on the page where they offer them. The short answer is that a daily case usually costs no balance to open but is gated behind something else — an account level, recent deposit activity, a social follow, or all three. This page explains the gates you will actually run into, how to read them before you sign up, and exactly what the gate on DuckSkins is.

The Four Gates

Account level

The case exists but is locked until you reach a level, and levels come from playing. Perfectly reasonable, and the most commonly disclosed of the four.

Deposit activity

The one that catches people. The case costs nothing to open, but you have to have deposited recently to be allowed to open it. Often measured over a rolling window, so it can unlock and then lock again.

Social requirements

Follow an account, join a server, put a code in your name. Cheap for you, and the real product being bought is your attention.

Withdrawal conditions

The nastiest kind, because it appears after you have won. The case was free, the skin is yours — but getting it out needs a deposit, a minimum amount played, or a minimum balance.

How to Check Before You Sign Up

You do not need an account to tell the difference. Three checks, in order of how much they tell you:

  1. Look at the tile, not the landing page. A site that states the condition on the case itself is telling you before you invest time. A site where the condition only appears when you click is telling you after.
  2. Check whether the contents are visible logged out. If you cannot see what is inside a case and what each item's chance is without an account, you are being asked to sign up to find out what you are being offered.
  3. Read the withdrawal terms before the case terms. A generous free case behind a restrictive withdrawal policy is not generous. That is where the real condition usually lives.

What the Gate Is on DuckSkins

Ours is the second kind, and we would rather write it here than have you discover it. A Daily Free Case costs no balance to open and what you unbox is a real skin. But tiers are not open to brand-new accounts: each one unlocks at an account level and carries a deposit requirement measured over a rolling window, which means a tier can lock again later if you stop meeting it. Higher tiers hold better skins.

The page shows what each case still needs rather than making you click to find out, and the rolls use the same provably fair system as paid opens — a free case is verifiable in exactly the same way as any other.

What we do not do: gate withdrawal behind the free case. If you unbox a skin from a Daily Free Case, it goes to your inventory and the normal withdrawal rules apply — the same ones that apply to everything else, no extra condition for having won it for nothing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you actually win real skins from a free CS2 case?

Yes. The items are real and they land in your inventory like any other drop. The prizes are small by design — a free case is a retention tool, not a payout — but they are real.

Why do sites gate free cases at all?

Because an ungated one is free money for anyone willing to make accounts in bulk. Every site gates them somehow; the difference is whether it says so on the tile or in the terms.

Is a free case worth opening?

If you already meet the condition, there is no reason not to. If meeting the condition means depositing purely to unlock a free case, you are paying for it, and the deposit is the price.

See the Conditions Before You Sign Up

Every DuckSkins case — free or paid — lists its full contents and the listed drop chance of every skin on the case page itself, with no sign-in needed to look. Run that test on us, then run it on anyone else. Browse the full case catalogue or see the Daily Free Cases and what each one needs.
